Key Considerations for CNC Machine Tool Processing Workshop in Summer

Factors such as high temperatures, humidity, and dust in summer can all impact the operation of equipment and the machining accuracy in a machine tool processing workshop. The following points are worth paying attention to:

  1. Environmental Control
    • Temperature Management: It is recommended to maintain the workshop temperature at 25±2℃. Depending on the conditions, air conditioning can be installed, or industrial fans and exhaust systems can be used to cool down. Additional cooling devices should be added if necessary.
    • Humidity Regulation: Use dehumidifiers or desiccants, placing them near the critical parts of the machine tools to avoid excessive humidity.

  2. Lubrication and Cooling System Maintenance
    • Lubrication Upgrade: High temperatures can lead to a decline in lubrication performance. It is recommended to switch to high-viscosity lubricating oil specifically designed for summer use (such as ISO VG68). At the same time, regularly clean the lubrication lines to ensure unobstructed oil flow.
    • Coolant Management: The spindle coolant acts as a “cooling guardian.” It is necessary to replace it with high-temperature-resistant coolant and regularly check the coolant level and concentration (recommended at 5%-10%). The cutting fluid should also be changed more frequently, and corrosion inhibitors should be added to prevent deterioration due to high temperatures. Additionally, the pH value of the cutting fluid should be maintained between 8.3 and 9.2, making it difficult for bacteria to survive.
    • Radiator Cleaning: Radiators in water-cooled and oil-cooled machines are prone to dust accumulation, which can affect cooling efficiency. Regularly clean the radiator dust and check for leaks in the water pump and pipelines.

  3. Key Mechanical Component Inspection
    • Spindle Temperature Monitoring: The spindle is the “heart” of the machine tool. High temperatures can cause it to overheat and get damaged. It is recommended to monitor the spindle temperature rise. If it exceeds 60℃, the machine should be shut down for inspection. During high-speed machining, reduce the load appropriately to avoid overheating and seizing.
    • Guide Rail Clearance Adjustment: High temperatures can cause changes in the guide rail clearance, which requires readjustment of the preload. At the same time, clean the chips inside the guide rail cover to prevent increased friction.

  4. Operational Standard Adjustment
    • Precision Compensation: Material expansion due to high temperatures may affect machining accuracy. When necessary, compensate for the tool path or reduce the feed speed. Carbide tools are prone to chipping at high temperatures. Consider switching to high-temperature-resistant coated tools (such as TiAlN).
    • Machine Shutdown Maintenance: When shutting down for an extended period, turn off the power but keep the electrical control cabinet ventilated to prevent condensation. Clean the worktable and tool magazine after daily machining to prevent chip residue from corroding the equipment.
    • Smart Monitoring: If conditions permit, install a real-time monitoring system for temperature, humidity, and vibration. This allows you to check the workshop and equipment status via a mobile phone or computer at any time. The system will automatically alarm if any abnormality occurs, allowing you to detect problems in advance.

By implementing the above measures, the impact of high temperatures and humidity in summer on the CNC machine tool processing workshop can be effectively reduced, ensuring stable operation of the equipment while maintaining machining accuracy and production efficiency.
